Web Design & Development Fees

How much do freelance web designers & developer charge?

Web designers & developers typically charge $75 per hour.

According to industry experts, the average cost of a basic business website is $6,760 including set up, design, build and content creation.  Considering the nature of services, the broader range is $2,000 to $10,000.  This range takes into account whether content is provided by the client or third-party, on-going maintenance, revisions & updates, and training the client.  Also, websites with highly customized functionality will cost much more.

Designers & Developer typically charge an hourly fee.  Industry statistics show that the cost to design a website is $30 to $80 per hour and the cost to develop it is $100 to $180 per hour.

So, why does the average web designer make $36 per hour, according to Salary.com?

This number may be misleading as it includes all web designers, including those who work in-house at agencies.  Freelancers reasonable charge higher hourly rates because they have more overhead expenses.  They don’t receive any perks that employees receive, have much less job security, and go from contract to contract. Also, a higher rate compensates them for the lack of long-term commitment from clients.  There are other factor such as project scope, length, difficulty, and experience level that impact whether a freelance designer or developer will charge more or less than the average $75 per hour.
